Our class has been excited to watch two monarch caterpillars as they transition from caterpillars to butterflies.

We were very excited when our caterpillars finally hatched from their chrysalis' and emerged as butterflies. We got to set them free outside and learned that our butterflies are going to make the trip south to Mexico for the winter.

Releasing our butterflies!!

We learned that monarch butterflies in our area fly south to Mexico in the fall. In the springtime they will fly back north again.

After we released our butterflies we were able to take a closer look at the butterflies' chrysalises and their molted skin...Did you know that when a caterpillar molts its skin it will sometimes EAT it!!

We had a great time watching and learning about monarch butterflies!
